General Information
Girls Golf
Girls Golf starts on February 23rd, hopefully the weather will cooperate, we generally keep 12-15 girls, that is not set in stone, we have had a range of ability levels from State Championship participants to girls that have never played. There will be a meeting on Monday Feb. 2nd after school to gauge the interest and get an idea of numbers. The most concerning aspect of High School golf is the cost, we spend over $600 a week for just practices and in a 10 week season that adds up, that being said we charge the $200 activity fee and then an additional $650 that covers the charge for team shirts a pullover for the girls and range balls, 9 hole practice fees, subs, and tournament fees for the season.
We practice at DU (Highlands Ranch Golf Course), The Links, and South Suburban and we try to start around 3-3:30. We practice Monday-Thursday since players miss about one day a week Friday is the time to get caught up and to make appointments. We will play 9 holes 1-3 days a week and hit range balls, putt, and chip on the days we do not play. Students will need to get themselves to and from practices and tournaments as we are not allowed to drive them. However, the girls are good about helping underclassmen get to practice, and we often have parents carpool.
Players will need their own clubs, depending on numbers, players that have little to no experience underclassmen will be kept over upperclassmen as they will be able to help the program in future years. Varsity tournaments will be 18 holes and we will take 5 golfers, and JV tournaments will be 9 holes and we can take 6 golfers and sometimes more. For those that have never played before you will not play in a tournament until you feel comfortable with the rules, etiquette, and pace of play. That being said, we will try to get every player into at least one tournament during the season.
